Lion Maurice Turgeon, DG

Governor Maurice Turgeon's Comments: February, 2010

It's a new year and all our Clubs have made it through the hectic Christmas holidays. For some reason most of our heavy lifting is finished for the year after the holidays are over which leaves extra time and energy for us to concentrate on raising funds to help support our District Project and membership.

Our Project is going very well and we are about half way there. I know with a little effort we can meet our goal. This is a very important endeavor, especially for those Clubs assisting people who do not live in the Sudbury area.

Members are the lifeblood of our Organization and I cannot stress enough how important it is to gain new members to help with our ever-increasing load. So far this year we have dropped 88 members and have lost 13 who have sadly passed away and have only inducted 58 new members, which leaves us with 43 less than what we started the year with. I know the Clubs are trying their very best and I appreciate your efforts, so please keep up the good work.

Please don't forget that very special day this month, "Valentines Day". I know you all work very hard and are away from home allot during the year with Bingos and other Lions Projects so spend some time with your loved one on that special day to say thank you for being there for us. While you're at it, you might want to consider bringing that spouse or partner to our District A5 Convention where they can socialize and meet some pretty nice people, enjoy some good meals and have some fun.

I'd like to thank Lion Verne Presse and 1st VDG Lion Bill Walker for going to Moose Factory Island and giving the members there some much needed training and assistance. Seems that Club is well on their way to becoming a vital and strong Club once again. It is going to be great to have them back in the family. Thanks to PDG Ivor Jones for all his efforts getting them going again.

There is no question in my mind that we are "Moving Forward" and the result will be growth and a stronger District.
